Family, Work, and Fitness
This past weekend my cousin was here from the east coast. She reconnected with old family, met new friends, and relaxed. We travelled from San Diego to Los Angeles and everywhere in between. It was an adjustment to have her here. I was not used to it. I had to work my appointments, make phone calls, attend meetings, play host, and exercise.
However stressful, the best feeling came at the airport. With my cousin walking away, I realized how great her visit was. A few nights before while reconnecting with my uncle, aunt, and other cousins that significance seem to fit together. No matter how much time passes these are the individuals you compare yourself to. They are the ones you love the most. They are the people whose opinions matter. They are who make you, who you are.
This week my writing is not about another fitness person or my opinion on something. It is about the people closest to you. Who are they? Do they make you FEEL good? Most importantly, do they give you strength and support?
“Deep within people dwell those slumbering powers…forces that would revolutionize their life if aroused and put into action” is a quote I posted on twitter this week. I further realized that the best people help cultivate these slumbering powers.
Even though life is busy and stressful, think of these people like my family. They help us awaken our strengths. Make time for them. You may never have a chance to tell them how great they are. Even when you may be tired, call them, you will find your purpose.

How right you are Adam! With everything going crazy in my life right now, my friends (far and near) have really stepped up and given me the support and encouragement that I needed to keep going. When I reach out to them for support, there they are!!! I know I hope to be the friend to them that they have been to me!
Hey Adam this could not be any more true! For those people in your life that don’t bring positive then they are not worth having in your life! A true friend and family members that are always there and positive make sure you go out of your way to connect with them as well! Always stay true to yourself that is most important!
“Make time for them. You may never have a chance to tell them how great they are.” I see this every day in my business and in my personal life. Your blog hit home with me Adam.
Not only should we take time for them, we should protect ourselves and the ones we love so that we get to spend as much time with them as possible.
Those are wonderful thoughts. They provide a special kind of energy. I have always said you’re a true “people person” Adam. You just seem to keep right on proving it!
Nicely done Adam. We are so consumed with work and school that we forget how important family and friends are. In this time in my life I make an extra effort to stay in contact with family and friends even if it is just for a brief moment. It is so important to cherish the meaningful relationships and to cultivate no ones with people who will shape your character.
Great blog Adam!
Thanks again Adam for making us think outside the box. We tend to take family and friends for granted and assume they know how much they mean to us. I know for me it has been special working out with my son and my brother, and seeing how hard they are working to achieve their goals. I miss my walking buddy but know she is working hard to complete her goal and when she has the time again, we’ll go right back to where we left off with our walking and talking.
Adam,
That was unexcpected. I opened it thinking I was going to get the work out perspective for my body and instead I got one for my mind!
I’m going to call my mother right now.
Hey Adam! All of that is so true! I know that when I move out to Phoenix that I need to remember my roots back home and know that everyone supports me. I’ve always tried to do things on my own and be independent but as you well know I wasn’t always like that… I’ve grown so much as a trainer and person! I’m so proud of myself with all of the steps I’ve taken to make this move happen but I also can’t forget all the people along the way (like you) that have taught me so much and helped me become who I am today.
Laughs and Smiles.
This post made me think of my brother (let’s call him “Jabroni”)
. You never know what will happen in life, so you have to make the most of every minute you have. It’s the same with keeping yourself fit and healthy – because you never know what the next day will bring.
Good job on the blog! Keep up the good work!
Great job Adam! Boy, did I need to read your blog! Thanks for reminding all of us to appreciate the time we have with the people we love, admire & respect most. We also need to BE THERE for those people in our lives who need our support & love. I’m trying to enjoy being in the moment with my family & friends rather than silently beating myself up about all those other things I “should” be doing. Thanks for all of your support and reminding us that “healthy” and “fit” is far more than what we accomplish at the gym!
